Overall I found it to be a very enjoyable film but what compelled me the most to write this review was the OUTSTANDING performance that Jenn Murray (who plays Dorothy) gave throughout this film! I came across this flick for a few times. I have never before been compelled to review a film but with this one I had too! 3 out of 6 found this helpful. It would have been creepier if the Islanders were played straight and saw nothing wrong with exploiting Dorothy for her strange "talent" and were willing to KILL anyone who tried to take her away from them. Jane reiterates that she is there to do what is best for Dorothy. It's more about the atmosphere, so it isn't made for teenagers. "Dorothy Mills" is a little gem of the supernatural genre to be discovered by movie lovers that follows the same style of the underrated "Haunted" and "The Innocents" with an engaging and ambiguous ghost story. Dorothy introduces herself as "Mary"; she is very loud, obnoxious and loves to drink. There are two reasons to rent this DVD: Carice van Houten who is becoming one of the finest actresses on the screen today and the scenery of Ireland. It's a mystery wrapped in an enigma. There were moments in the film that had a "Wicker Man" feel to it; remote island, eccentric and secretive townspeople. He then finds that his dog has had his throat slit. In Ireland, the psychiatrist Jane Morton (Carice van Houten) is assigned to give a psychological assessment to the disturbed teenager Dorothy Mills (Jenn Murray) that tried to strangle a baby while babysitting him.

The only message is: don't get caught and if you do cover it up as best you can...

The problematic nature of faith and ethics is a strong thread to the story, as the Church is unable or unwilling (through the role of the Parish priest) to support any sense of justice. Its quality is, in general, superior to what I expected to find and, although it never scares, it creates a very pleasant tension and suspense and has a story that holds us until the end. On the plus side Jenn Murray as the disturbed "Dorothy" and Carice Van Houten as her Psychiatrist "Jane" play out their roles to near perfection.

Acting is something I quite often take for granted and only really notice if it is terrible, however this film made me appreciate acting positively for the first time ever!!
